Red Auerbach Award in 2024
Red Is Allowed Upon White When He Represents the Green Boston – On Thursday night, Derrick White was selected the 2024 Red Auerbach Award laureate, which is one of the more important awards a Boston Celtic can have.
The Celtics player or coach who best represents the essence of what it means to be a Celtic via outstanding play both on and off the court is honored with this award each year. And White has behaved in just that manner all season long.
Strong and reliable on the field, engaged and compassionate in the community, White embodies all the qualities Auerbach would have cherished in a player.
Before Boston’s game against the New York Knicks, Lead Owner and Governor of the Boston Celtics, Wyc Grousbeck, along with Co-Owner Robert Epstein, presented White with the honor. “Derrick has been an integral part of this team both on and off the court.” “He is a true example of what it means to be a Boston Celtic and has demonstrated his commitment to serving as a friend, mentor, and role model for community members in addition to his teammates.”
Since its introduction in 2006, the Auerbach Award has been given to 17 different Celtics 19 times. The only players to win it twice are Paul Pierce (2006, 2013) and Kevin Garnett (2008, 2012), while the only coach to do it is Doc Rivers (2011). The only other current Celtics to get this accolade are Al Horford (2017), Jayson Tatum (2021), and Jaylen Brown (2023).
Playing-wise, White’s NBA season has been by far his finest to date, averaging career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game at 15.3, 4.3, and 5.2. More.
